He Knew He Was Right (2004)!

He Knew He Was Right focuses on the marriage of Louis and Emily Trevelyan. For their first year of marriage, the couple has a son and a happy life. When Colonel Osbourne, Emily's godfather, pays her visits very often, Louis suspects that Emily is cheating on him with Colonel Osbourne. Other subplots include the romance between Nora Rowley, Emily's sister, and Hugh Stanbury, Louis's best friend, the comical vicar Mr. Gibson and two dueling sisters who fight over him, Hugh's sister, Dorothy, staying with her Aunt Stanbury, among others.

I know you all are just as excited as I am for this tournament. I'm not going to release what characters are involved until the day the tournament starts, but I'll give you a little hint (which for some characters might be a give-a-way). I am releasing today the authors whose characters are involved in this tournament.

I've already put together the matches. They were randomly selected, and I must say some of them are quite interesting! There might be a couple of really difficult choices! I can't wait for the tournament to start!

Regency Apron

If you remember, about a week ago, I posted a sneak preview of my next sewing project. Did anyone guess right?

Well, to reveal what it is... here it is!

Tada! It's a Regency Era Apron! This was made out of ivory colored cotton. I used the pattern Butterick 5509, view D.

 I made this pattern within a couple of weeks (I took a week off of sewing because I was a little busy). I had fun working on it (as I do with most of my sewing projects).

Here we have a close-up of the back ties. The ties are not pre-tied: they can be adjusted to fit anyone.

Here is the close-up of the front bodice. There is some gathering along the bodice and skirt.

Meanwhile, I think I'm getting a little better with hemming neatly!

 

And, of course, what would a Regency Apron be without a Regency dress? Well, an apron.

So, there's my new apron. I'll have to start my next project soon, so in the meantime, enjoy the apron and the period drama reviews!

Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion and Sneak Preview

About a month ago, I bought two books on Amazon, and recently I finally got them.

So, Starting of with Patterns of Fashion 1, I took some pictures from a couple of the pages (not of the patterns, but of the illustrations). The illustrations are gorgeous.

So here are some of the examples of projects in the 1st book (which are patterns from 1660 to 1860). The left one is similar to a robe that was worn in Sense and Sensibility. The right one is called a polonaise which was worn during the 1700's.

 Also included was the evolution of dress from 1660 to 1860. I really liked this, however there is not a similar page in Patterns of Fashion 2.

Now, onto Patterns of Fashion 2, which features patterns of dresses from 1860 to 1940.

The top picture I just love! I would make that dress for even a formal occasion and is from the early 1900's. The bottom picture is an assortment of dress from the 1870's (notice the bustles in the back).

While Patterns of Fashion 2 did not have the evolution of dresses from 1860 to 1940, they did have drawings from fashion magazines and pictures of patterns from fashion magazines. Some of the pictures one would recognize were from Vogue.

So, that's a taste of the books that I got in the mail. I have a couple of projects piled right now, so I hope that I'll be able to work with these books soon.

And I promised you a sneak preview! I have started on a new project not too long ago.
