Explanation of No Reviews

I've been a little lax for my reviews since there haven't been reviews for two weeks (this week and last week). A lot has been going on in life recently, between papers and other homework and the tournament, so I haven't really had time to review anything. Don't worry, I'm not stopping reviews: in fact, I'm hoping by next week, I'll have a review ready. It's just been a little crazy lately, but we've just got a couple more period dramas on DVD and hopefully everything will calm down.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful beginning to 2011.

I just thought I'd do an update. I added blog buttons to Elegance of Fashion, which you can find here or at the top of the page at the little tab that says Blog Buttons. There are only a few so far, but I will be adding more and some in a little longer size (so it's like a mini banner). Keep an eye out for new blog buttons; they are in the making!

On another note, today I went and saw...

The King's Speech!

My mom and I went to the theater this afternoon to see it. We both enjoyed it! Pride and Prejudice fans might be interested in seeing it: it features both Colin Firth (who was Mr. Darcy) and Jennifer Ehle (who was Elizabeth Bennet). And, briefly, also seen from Pride and Prejudice in The King's Speech was David Bamber (Mr. Collins). I didn't recognize him until my mom pointed it out to me. He was in there for about two or three minutes. Fans of Emma and Cranford will recognize Michael Gambon (Mr. Woodhouse in Emma, Mr. Holbrook in Cranford); he was in there for a couple of scenes. The King's Speech is rated R for language (there is heavy language in two scenes, but not so much in the rest of the movie). I think I'll review this movie for my weekly review, so keep an eye out for the review of this movie.

Update! and Embroidery Pictures

Hey everyone!

I said that I would try to post an update during my busy weeks, so here I am! I'm sure that once finals are over, all will be back to normal. I'm hoping to post a review around December 20th (give or take a day or two); then reviews should go back to normal. I also believe that December 20th is the day in which the poll closes, so I'll also have to create a poll that day too.

Hopefully in a little while, I'll update everyone on my sewing. I haven't been neglecting it, and have been working on it a little at a time while taking breaks from my busy schedule.

Now, as I promised, here are some pictures of some embroidery work I did a few years back. The first five I got from a book called Teach Yourself to Embroider, while the last one I drew from a picture I found on the computer. Enjoy!

Poll Closed and Update

Hello,

I hope all is well with you all. I'm combining this post as an update and an announcement about the poll.

First on the agenda, the poll. The poll at the side is now closed. To the question "Which is your favorite historical fashion period?":

50% of voters said the Regency Era

30% said the Victorian Era

Tied with 10% was the Gregorian Era and Modern Era

No one voted for the Renaissance or earlier or the early 1900s. Thank you everyone for voting! I'll put up a new poll very soon. If you wish to see the graph, I will also leave that up for a little while.

Now for the update. I'm still continuing to work on reviews each week. They'll mostly be posted on Monday or Tuesday (though I will try for Monday most of the time). I have quite a bit of period dramas to review, but I'm also continuing to watch new ones (which I will eventually review).

I am also working on a new sewing project: a dress to wear to a formal event. Hopefully all will go well with it with the least amount of mistakes possible.

Also, remember to suggest your friends or anyone that might be interested in my blog. I would really appreciate it.

Update!

Hello Everyone!

I hope all is well. I have had more time lately to work on my blog. I'm hoping to write more reviews. There is one that I will release shortly. What is it? You'll have to wait and see!

As you can see, I finally got an image for the header. Also, I added a page at the top: it's the index to the reviews that I have written; hopefully there will be more coming soon!

Oh! If you haven't already, you can like the Facebook page for Elegance of Fashion along the side. And please suggest this page to your friends.

I am working on another sewing project, so I'll post pictures of it when it is done. It is another historically based garment. That's the only clue that I am giving out for now!

Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion and Sneak Preview

About a month ago, I bought two books on Amazon, and recently I finally got them.

So, Starting of with Patterns of Fashion 1, I took some pictures from a couple of the pages (not of the patterns, but of the illustrations). The illustrations are gorgeous.

So here are some of the examples of projects in the 1st book (which are patterns from 1660 to 1860). The left one is similar to a robe that was worn in Sense and Sensibility. The right one is called a polonaise which was worn during the 1700's.

 Also included was the evolution of dress from 1660 to 1860. I really liked this, however there is not a similar page in Patterns of Fashion 2.

Now, onto Patterns of Fashion 2, which features patterns of dresses from 1860 to 1940.

The top picture I just love! I would make that dress for even a formal occasion and is from the early 1900's. The bottom picture is an assortment of dress from the 1870's (notice the bustles in the back).

While Patterns of Fashion 2 did not have the evolution of dresses from 1860 to 1940, they did have drawings from fashion magazines and pictures of patterns from fashion magazines. Some of the pictures one would recognize were from Vogue.

So, that's a taste of the books that I got in the mail. I have a couple of projects piled right now, so I hope that I'll be able to work with these books soon.

And I promised you a sneak preview! I have started on a new project not too long ago.

Any one want to take a guess? I'll give you a hint: it's for a special, family occasion!

Hello everyone!

Sorry I haven't been posting for a couple of days now. I just started school, so everything should go back to normal eventually.

I've just posted my older projects to this blog that I have pictures of, and I'm hoping to start up on some new projects. I'm currently waiting for pattern books in the mail which should come sometime this week (I hope!).

I'll also try to put together some reviews to post.
